I am a single parent, a mother to two boys, both now adults. I have been childminding for over 20 years and I love it and whilst the demands of being a childminder have changed over the years I still thoroughly enjoy the day-to-day challenges and take great pride in the achievements of the children I mind. I am happy to provide references from parents past and present.
I regularly undertake further training in all aspects of child development, health and safety, First Aid, etc. I have an NVQ Level III in Early Years Care and Education. I also have the City & Guilds 7307 Adult Education Teacher’s qualification. As part of my teaching certificate I attained the C+G Level 1 Counselling qualification – very useful in my dealings with children. I am very interested in developing children's communication skills and as well as being a 'Communication Champion' I have qualified at Level 1 in BSL (British Sign Language). This has proved invaluable in supporting communication with the young children and babies in my care. We regularly include ‘signing’ in our songs and nursery rhymes and the children subsequently use signing as an additional communication strategy. I am also a fully trained SENCo. (Special Educational Needs Coordinator).
A full list of my qualifications and training is shown on the ‘Qualifications’ page of my website. All my certificates are available for viewing.
I fully appreciate the value of sharing ideas and good practice with other childcare professionals and to this end I now organise a peer support group for childminders which meets regularly at my home and allows us to discuss current issues and benefit from new ideas for activities that the children in our care will enjoy.
